Hearts of Oak impressively dispatched off Berekum Chelsea on match week
22 as they saw off the men from Berekum by 2 goals to nil.
A brace from captain and leader Thomas Abbey in each half was enough to earn the Phobians all 3 points on the day.
Hearts needed a spirited performance to exorcise the ghost of defeats of their last 2 league games and get back to winning ways.
return of midfield maestro Winful Cobbinah largely was felt in the game
as Hearts dominated the centre of the pitch from the blast of the
whistle till the end. Clearly, the side missed his incisive, clever and
pinpoint passes and vision on the field of play.
early dominance nearly resulted in a goal when Patrick Razak hit a
first-time connection to Kizito's lob but goalkeeper John Moosie in goal
for Chelsea did well do deny the Phobians.
had to maintain a patient build up in search of their first league goal
in 3 outings and that eventually came in the 36th minute, courtesy
captain Thomas Abbey.
The Phobians number 12 capitalised on a rebound of Kizito's initial saved effort to strike home a much-needed goal.
Chelsea were at the stage toothless and left chasing shadows for most part of the half.
First half ended with the Phobians walking down the tunnel feeling they should have been up by more than just a goal.
second half was no different from the first. Hearts continued to press
seeking another goal to cushion themselves and allow some breathing
space and ease tension between the fans, and the fans had to wait for
just a minute to jump off their seats. A 46th-minute goal again from the
boot of Thomas Abbey. This time Winful Cobbinah played in Fatawu who's
cut back failed to be cleared by two Chelsea defenders Abbey smartly
went past them to side foot the ball home.
of Oak from then had a couple of decent chances to kill the game beyond
Chelsea but Kizito was the worst culprit fluffing all the opportunities
that came his way.
quickly introduced Akwasi Randolf and Seth Appiah for the booked Evans
Obeng and Amankona with the intent to salvage something from the game
but Hearts were too good for them on the day.
were forced into a double substitution themselves as captain Abbey went
down injured and couldn't continue and had to make way for Isaac Mensah
whilst Winful Cobbinah limped off to be replaced by Robert Addo.
minutes of injury time was deemed efficient by referee Reginald
Lethbridge but the Phobians professionally saw the game off in an
emphatic way. 2 nil they beat their opponents on the day.
